* Oxiclean: $100 Visa Card Giveaway *

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and OxiClean.

——–

Our family does three loads of laundry every day.  So I was happy recently to be asked to review a couple of new Oxiclean products.

  • Oxiclean Max Force Power Paks: these cute little packets use active oxygen to hunt hidden stains and boost the effectiveness of your detergent.  I was immediately curious if they’d turn perpetually grey boys’ socks white– you know, the ones my boys wear for three days straight inside, outside and everywhere before I notice how bad they are.  Here is a picture of the way the socks look AFTER our normal washing, using either Tide or Cheer in my front load washer.

  • It was really hard to get a picture to show the true shade of white.  But I think you can probably tell that the socks are not terrible, but definitely grey-tinged.The picture below is the picture of the same socks after another washing, this time using an Oxiclean power pack along with our normal detergent.  The socks are definitely whiter. Not blindingly so, and again, I’m not sure how easy it is to tell by the photos.  But the power packs definitely made the socks whiter.

Now– the question– would I buy the packs myself?  Not for my boys’ socks– they’re just going to run outside in them anyway.   But I might keep some of these around for white t-shirts that various family members use for layers.  I washed a bunch of t-shirts in with the greyish socks, and was pleasantly surprised at how much better they looked, even the old soft ones that are starting to look a bit ratty.

  • Oxiclean Max Force Gel Stick: color-safe pre-treater that gets deep into clothing fibers to release stains.  I’ll have to try it a bit longer before I can tell you if I recommend it or not.   But it did work for what I tried it on– a spaghetti stain on a white t-shirt.   It came right out.

I would love to be entered. I’m going to look for the Oxiclean Max Force Power Paks to see if they would get the “storage stains” out of the baby’s clothes.

My 2 year old makes enough stains for a large family. I feel like I am always doing laundry for my family of 3.

  21. Rebekah J on March 10, 2010 at 10:54 pm

Oh wow! You always see those comparisons on tv about how such and such product works but it’s the first time I’ve seen it done outside the lab and I have to say, it was convincing. Not for those everyday socks but for those other hard “oops” stains!

  22. Rebecca Graham on March 11, 2010 at 12:42 am

OxiClean has been a big help in my laundry room.

  23. Mami2jcn on March 11, 2010 at 5:43 am

I haven’t tried OxiClean yet, but I have 3 messy kids, so I think I should!

  24. heather on March 11, 2010 at 7:06 am

We’re redecorating my girls’ room and I want to do white matelasse bedcovers and blankets. And with a fourth on the way, I’m remembering what all those spit up stains will be like on onesies, gah!

  25. Hannah on March 11, 2010 at 8:04 am

I have never used oxi clean but would love to give it a go. I constantly seems to have stains I need to get out!

I love the OxiClean powder, so I’d love to try the two new OxiClean products. The gel looks awesome! Thanks!!

  28. Marianna on March 11, 2010 at 10:36 am

LOL – “they’re just going to run outside in them anyway” – spoken like a true boy mom! I have two boys myself and thought that was hilarious! I don’t care for the oxiclean power but I’m excited to give the gel a try!

  29. Katy M on March 11, 2010 at 12:05 pm

I’m like you. I love OxiClean for certian clothing items that would be expensive to replace, but I don’t use it for everyday use. I was certainly suprised the first time I tried it at how a red wine stain on my nice white shirt came right out!

Thanks for the great giveaway!!! :)

  30. Corinne on March 11, 2010 at 12:56 pm

Wow! I didn’t think about using it on socks. I hate the stains on my white socks and am embarrassed to take off my shoes when company is over. What a great idea!

  31. Brooke on March 11, 2010 at 1:32 pm

The gel looks pretty cool. Off to find a coupon.

March Mudness … OxiClean to the rescue.

  48. Cassandra on March 12, 2010 at 9:18 am

Looking at those socks makes me want to do my laundry now.

  49. WendyLou on March 12, 2010 at 9:25 am

Three loads a day? Yikes! I’ve got to come up with a new system. I used to be able to do all of my laundry in just one day, but four growing kids (and two more on the way soon from Ethiopia) makes a one-day laundry routine much, much more difficult. Thanks for the review and the cool giveaway!!

  50. Amy Rankin on March 12, 2010 at 10:16 am

Not doing 3 loads a day, but still a lot of laundry…DH is a veterinarian who also runs his family’s large dairy farm, so that means some DIRTY clothes! Add on myself and our 5 children still at home, and I am the laundry queen…for sure!
