Organic Girl giveaway

Last week when a big-ol box came in the mail, my kids all gathered around excitedly.  When I opened it to discover three boxes of meticulously packed salad greens, they may have been a little disappointed.  OK, I’ll be honest– a couple kids even groaned. But I was delighted.

In my ongoing quest to eat better, these triple-washed organic salad mixes fit right in.  Organic Girl is a California-based company that prides itself on the quality of their salad greens.  I got a chance to try out three of their varieties, oincluding the one on the left,  and liked them all.

Here’s your chance to try them too!  Today I’m giving away FIVE coupons that will allow five of you to try Organic Girl greens for free. Organic Girl will also throw in recipes for creative ways to use those lovely greens.

To enter the drawing to win one of the five coupons, comment below and tell me your favorite kind of salad.  For a second entry, go like Organic Girl  or Owlhaven (or both!) on Facebook and come back and tell me in ANOTHER comment that you did so!  I’ll pick a winner next week after I get back from Created for Care!

  1. I love premixed and washed salads, too! My favorite way to build a salad is to top it with turkey bacon, avocado, blue cheese, pepitas, and cranberries.

I also love balsamic reduction as a topper, or anything from Annie’s naturals.

    • Just BEWARE. I would suggest thoroughly washing these greens. I purchased the Vive la France mix and we found a large 1 1/2″ dead grasshopper in it. Fortunately, we found it before someone ingested it. My kids are terrified!

  2. I love making this Olive Garden Copy Cat recipe:http://www.tammysrecipes.com/olive_garden_salad_dressing

My favorite is kale salad. Yeah, I know, it sounds awful, but it’s SO GOOD! I could eat the whole bowl. Here’s where I got the basic recipe: http://www.teaandcookiesblog.com/2010/11/rule-of-thirds.html but, since I’m making it for the whole family, I don’t really measure it out like that.

  8. Jennifer says:

And I like you on FB.

  9. Kristy B says:

My big question is – how do they mail salad?

  19. I love Greek salads :)

  20. Many of the Asian-themed salads have flavors that turn out to be not so exciting to me, but just about any other combo is delicious. Veggies, fruits, nuts, cheeses, meats, whatever! I generally like a balsamic vinaigrette type dressing, but sometimes I have to splurge on a good quality bleu cheese with big ol’ chunks of cheese in it. Mixed greens like this just really spruce up a salad more than simple romaine or spinach.

  21. the best salad is when we get it fresh from the garden

  22. I eat a LOT of salads with baby spinach. I’ll add carrots, onions, chopped walnuts, either chicken or tuna, chopped green olives or diced avocado, and either bleu cheese dressing or just oil and vinegar. Love those salads!

  37. Love all salads and especially spinach salads, but my guilty pleasure is the classic ceasar salad.

  38. We love the spring mix mixed with some romaine…then make it Mediteranean…baby beets, kalamata olives, red onion, feta cheese and a good Greek dressing!

  39. I love mixed baby greens with avocado, tomatoes (in season!), goat cheese, and Annie’s Green Goddess dressing. My search is for a homemade salad dressing that I really like!

  40. chantel lloyd says:

I love chef salad or cobb. Yummm!!

  41. I love salad with lots of veggies, dried fruit, kelp noodles and raw nut butter dressing.

  42. We make salads that double for a meal — everything but the kitchen sink! And I love using plain nonfat yogurt in place of dressing — tangy and good.

  43. My favorite salad is Spinach salad with hot dressing! Yummy!

  44. I LOVE salad. Especially when I’m pregnant and can’t stomach other foods, salads are my go-to meal.

    Some of my favorite varieties:
    lettuce+peppers+black olives+tomatoes+cucumbers+carrots

    lettuce+apples+cheese+sunflower seeds+bacon or chicken

I often use olive oil and red wine, apple cider, or balsamic vinegar, however, your homemade ranch dressing is THE BEST. I sometimes eat a salad just as an excuse to eat the ranch dressing!

    :)

  45. I “like” ya (more than just on FB)!! :D

  46. My favorite salad is probably Blue Cheese Chopped Salad. It started as a coppy-cat Outback Steakhouse salad, but I had the restaurant’s version the other night for the first time in a couple years and found that I like my homemade version WaaAAAyyy better than the original!

Dressing: Apple cider vineger, honey, dash of salt and cinnamon, oil of choice.
Chop lettuce, red cabbage, green onion and toss together. Sprinke on some spiced nuts (I usually use pecans sauted with sugar, cinnamon, and pumpkin-pie type spices) blue cheese crumbles, and crunchy chow mein noodles. Yummy! In fact, it’s on the menu tonight.

  47. Cobb salad.

  48. I love salads of mixed spring greens, craisins, shredded carrots, boiled eggs, shredded cheese, blue cheese dressing. YUM! LOVE salads!!

  49. I liked Organicgirl – you (always) and I heart all kinds of salads. My favorite is greens, blue cheese and walnuts – and a very light drizzle of oil and vinegar. Thank you for the opportunity!
