New year ideas

December 26, 2011

Christmas was truly, exceedingly lovely. Happy kids, happy parents, much goodness. We haven’t had such a peaceful and delightful Christmas in years.  I am hoping to get some photos edited to share with you later this week. But for now I thought I’d share a few ideas for the new year.

First of all, if you’re looking for a devotional to begin in the new year, you might be interested in this free Kindle book by Cynthia Heald called Dwelling in His Presence. (Remember, you can get Kindle for PC free.)

Second, if you happen to be looking for a movie to see with the kids during break, you might consider the animated movie ‘Tin Tin’.  John and I took our oldest son to see it for his birthday today, and we all enjoyed it.  Kinda reminded me of a family friendly animated Indiana-Jones-style adventure.  Good fun, and amazingly cool animation.

And here’s a lovely idea for a diary that my daughter pointed out to me.  It would be so much fun to read in a year or two or five.  I hope that your Christmas was lovely too, and I will be back in a few days!

Thanks for the great ideas! Did I miss a coupon code for the book? It’s coming up as $2.99? Here’s a link to my favorite free devotional, For the Love of God by DA Carson.

I use that same reading plan (M’Cheyne) in The Bible App (also free!) from youversion.com, in the Android version you can click on the days reading and then the speaker icon and it will read you the days scripture! This has really helped me stay on track this year, I never have a day where I’m too busy to at least *listen* to God’s word, even if I can’t sit down. And as an added bennefit my kiddos are soaking up truth, you’d be surprised how much even the little ones catch :)

I am not seeing it for free! Do you recommend any other ones? One that lasts all year?

Good movie to see this season, We Bought A Zoo. My kids were not interested in seeing Tin Tin so saw this one instead, loved it.

I was just given a Kindle Touch for Christmas and this devotional is one of the first books I downloaded. I just happened upon it when I searched “free kindle books” in the Kindle shop and I’m so glad I did! I love that there are so many classics, Bibles and devotionals for free on there.

I think the book must only have been free for a day or two. Sorry– I wasn’t aware of that when I linked to it! Here’s another devotional that lasts a year and that is free on kindle if you have amazon prime

I started that journaling in November when I saw it on Pinterest. I look forward to updating it every night. And as I was looking back just over the last month I noticed so many things I had already forgotten that are now written down!
