Giveaway: sweetriot chocolate
When I was a kid I loved any kind of chocolate. But over the years I’ve gotten pickier. These days I won’t touch the cheapo waxy Easter eggs. In fact, I don’t even buy them for the kids anymore. When we eat chocolate, we’d all much rather nibble something wonderful. (Yes, I’m afraid our kids are well on their way to chocolate snobbery excellent taste in a chocolate.)
So when a batch of sweetriot chocolate came in the mail for us last week, we were all very happy. When we tasted this chocolate, we were even happier. The tiny square bars are a perfect sweet morsel for when you want some chocolate but really don’t need to overdo it.
The large 100-gram bars should definitely be shared– or nibbled and hidden away for a few days before returning to them. They come in 60%(with cocoa nibs), pure 70% and pure 85%. Most of our family found the 85% bar rather fierce– we all like chocolate with a little more sweetness. But the 60% and 70% bars were completely enjoyed by everyone– very rich and dark, but just a little mellower and sweeter than the 85% bar. I loved the crunchy little cocoa ‘nibs’ in the 60% variety.
You can read more about sweetriot here. They are a new company that aims to make a good product in a socially responsible way. Their products are antioxidant packed, kosher, and vegan, with no gluten ingredients and no dairy ingredients. (Silly me, I thought chocolate had to have milk in it, but I guess not!) Look for sweetriot at World Market, Safeway, and Whole Foods, among other retailers. Or if you want to buy direct from their website, I’ve been given a special discount code that you can use. Here is the discount code: owlhavenriot
It will give you 15% off any item in their online store, and expires on 12/31 at midnight.
OK, now for the giveaway! With Christmas coming, and lots to do to prepare, I’d love to hear what you do to decompress or – even better — to keep your stress level from getting too high in the first place. Exercise is definitely one for me, as is enough sleep. What about you?

me please!
I have two very active toddlers at home and an infant nephew I care for during the day as well, so it can be quite chaotic around here if I let it. I like to set my alarm for early in the morning before the kids get up (well, I don’t LIKE it, but I do find it necessary), and get some exercise and prayer time in, then take a hot shower and, in the quiet of the shower, plan out our day and check my attitude. I find when I’m in a funk or generally grumpy, it really rubs off on the kids – even the baby. If I decide to be happy and cheerful, well – the day just generally goes by faster and with everyone more cooperative.
Just “liked” them on FB!
I pretend that Christmas is December 10, so I have all of my shopping completed before then, if I can. My mom taught me that when I was little and it really helps!
Making “TO DO IT NOW” list and taking breaks to take deep breaths and of course snack on some dark chocolate. And always remember the real reason for the season!!!
Stress relief? *Not* repeating over and over to myself that “I’m so stressed”. I never understood why people always said that — if you don’t tell yourself you’re stressed, you will be less likely to *be* stressed.
That said, if I’m feeling overwhelmed this time of year, I will sit on my favorite couch by my fireplace with a mocha (iced or hot – either works) and read a few encouraging words from the Word. There’s nothing quite like sitting down and relaxing with my mind only on what God’s done for me.
I just “liked” them on Facebook! Thanks for the entries!
What do I do to keep stress at bay? I eat chocolate, of course.

I am trying to get all gifts purchased and ordered by the end of November, which leaves December for wrapping and mailing.
Y-u-m!
Definitely liked on Face Book!
What a yummy looking giveaway! As far as keeping stress under control around the holidays, there are a few things I do, when I remember, which help. The biggest thing is reminding myself that Christmas is about Christ, and relationships, and joy; and not about how much money I have, or don’t have, to spend on the occasion. But besides that, I found a great magnesium supplement called Natural Calm when I was pregnant with baby #1, and I’ve been using it since then to help my body deal with the physical side-effects of stress. Anyone with aches or cramps or stress headaches: you have to try it!
An afternoon soak in the tub with a cup of tea… Ahhhhhhh… Nothing better:)
I’m a list person too. And planning ahead keeps me from being too stressed also. When I do get stressed my husband is extremely good at talking me into a calmer state. He’s wonderful!
Oh pick me! I’d love some good chocolate! For me stress relievers are a hot cup of tea and a book to read to my cute and cuddly 18 month old boy!
I also liked them on facebook!!
I like to read or play peaceful music.
Getting enough sleep is my best bet, but I haven’t been so good at it lately. That’s when chocolate comes in handy!
Well, usually I try to have all the shopping done by December 1 so that I can rest and enjoy the whole Advent season too.
This year I scheduled hand surgery Dec 7 and if that doesn’t keep me from overdoing it and taking it easy I don’t know what will!
I don’t do much shopping at malls, etc. so that saves a lot of stress! I do have to have some down time by myself too (not always easy to come by)!

Through all the things to do and chaos, I try to remember to breathe! It sounds so easy, but it’s also easy to forget. Yoga helps a lot with deep breathing too.

When I need to de-stress, I take some time for myself. I love reading on my kindle. It really allows me to pull away from everything for a while and escape to another world. Afterwards, I come back refreshed!!

I try to drink a lot of water (people often don’t realize how easy it is to get dehydrated in the winter), to rest, and to take long walks with my dog.
I have tried to really evaluate what is important and what is not. Giving me grace is something I try much harder to do. Exercise is a must as is eating well.

A hot bath, good book and a cup of tea do it for me! With a cookie even better!
Sleep-early bedtimes and planning out the schedule to know to say NO to too many good tempting outings.

Knitting helps me unstress. Also just handing over my expectations for myself (and everyone else..Lol) to God and listening to Him.
There’s stuff i dont do to cut down on stress such as baking and cuttind down gift lists
When my stress level is the highest, which is usually right after the first of the year (the holidays with so much time around people is stressful for this introvert!), I check into a local hotel for a couple of nights of complete solitude. I save all year to be able to do it!

Liked on FB. Thanks for the info. It’s good to be particular about your chocolate!
I do yoga and run to manage stress. After a few miles or a few sun salutations, I feel much calmer.
To de-stress, really, chocolate is a little lifesaver! As a fellow chocolate snob I am partial to See’s, but will have to try sweetriot.
.
While chocolate is a de-stressing little pick me up, there is nothing like staying in the Word and remembering His presence in your life to truly stay calm and peaceful through stressful times. My husband is currently being treated for cancer, and thanks to the Lord’s work in our lives we both still feel so amazingly blessed even in this difficult time. The joy of the Lord is my strength

Sleeping. Sleeping and chocolate. : )
Dancing and playing indoor basketball with my two-year-old helps me decompress!
Yum!!!
A hot bath and a good book. A quiet walk outside–fresh air always has a way of clearing my head!
I realised several years ago that I could not do everything and have it all be “perfect”. I asked my family what made Christmas the most memorable for them and we stick to that. Too much made momma mad!! Thanks for the chance to feed my addiction.
Sit and look at the Christmas tree every night with my kids….helps me remember that it’s all about the Savior.
