Giveaway: sweetriot chocolate

November 30, 2011

When I was a kid I loved any kind of chocolate.   But over the years I’ve gotten pickier.  These days I won’t touch the cheapo waxy Easter eggs.   In fact, I don’t even buy them for the kids anymore.  When we eat chocolate, we’d all much rather nibble something wonderful. (Yes, I’m afraid our kids are well on their way to chocolate snobbery excellent taste in a chocolate.)

So when a batch of sweetriot chocolate came in the mail for us last week, we were all very happy.  When we tasted this chocolate, we were even happier. The tiny square bars are a perfect sweet morsel for when you want some chocolate but really don’t need to overdo it.

The large 100-gram bars should definitely be shared– or nibbled and hidden away for a few days before returning to them.  They come in 60%(with cocoa nibs), pure 70% and pure 85%.  Most of our family found the 85% bar rather fierce– we all like chocolate with a little more sweetness.   But the 60% and 70% bars were completely enjoyed by everyone– very rich and dark, but just a little mellower and sweeter than the 85% bar.  I loved the crunchy little cocoa ‘nibs’ in the 60% variety.

You can read more about sweetriot here.   They are a new company that aims to make a good product in a socially responsible way.  Their products are antioxidant packed, kosher, and vegan, with no gluten ingredients and no dairy ingredients. (Silly me, I thought chocolate had to have milk in it, but I guess not!) Look for sweetriot at World Market, Safeway, and Whole Foods, among other retailers.  Or if you want to buy direct from their website, I’ve been given a special discount code that you can use. Here is the discount code:  owlhavenriot

It will give you 15% off any item in their online store, and expires on 12/31 at midnight.

OK, now for the giveaway!  With Christmas coming, and lots to do to prepare, I’d love to hear what you do to decompress or –  even better — to keep your stress level from getting too high in the first place.  Exercise is definitely one for me, as is enough sleep.  What about you?

Comment below to enter. For a second entry, like Sweetriot on facebook and come back and comment again.  I will be selecting one winner on Friday.  If you are that lucky winner, you will be getting some sweetriot chocolate goodness in your mailbox sometime during the next few weeks.

Sleep and exercise are keys for me. This year, I have spent time planning my month to avoid trying to do everything in a week and a half before Christmas. I am trying to get stuff done in the next two weeks to ease the stress later.

I write when I am super stressed and I recently started working out several times a week. the work out leaves me exhausted so I also get more sleep. Who knew?

I like chocolate *a lot* but if I win, I will give it to my work out partner, Tami. She deserves a treat.

sleep is huge, but so is just dumping the attitude of “doing it all” I’ve had to say who cares if my house doesn’t look like the house in the Christmas issue of the magazine, how can it with 5 kids? So if I do that & instead focus on just enjoying the holidays with my kids, baking, crafts, singing, decorating & of course celebrating Jesus birthday, than it will indeed be a Merry Christmas!

Holiday music and having a fire roaring are both relaxing to me. If I had a busy day we sit and watch the fire instead of tv. It makes it much easier to wind down. Thanks for the giveaway.

Taking a walk in the woods near my home – the exercise helps but it also helps to be in nature.
Taking a moment to read my Bible and pray.
Enough sleep definitely makes a difference.
Getting together with girlfriends, to either eat lunch or drink coffee, is the best!

Just say no! If something doesn’t work for our family or will create too much stress, we don’t do it. Too many obligations make me twitchy!

When I’m stressed, it’s usually because I’m not getting enough sleep. If I can steal a nap, it makes all the difference in the world! If not, listening to audio books or inspirational speakers or scripture while I work on the house helps me feel like I’m enjoying myself while I work.

Yes, December is a joyous but also stressful month! A few things I do to destress is exercise at the top of my list. A nice long, brisk walk with my husband is the best! We get to connect and have a bit of exercise. Communication with my hubby means a more cheerful household!!! Another great activity that helps me relax is baking and what perfect timing for all the wonderful cookies to share with neighbors and friends. By the way my whole family loves chocolate too!!!

This year I decided not to host a big family Christmas party and instead I am passing that baton on to another family member… just having that weight off my shoulders has already helped so much..

I love soaking in a Lavender salt filled bathtub.

Hi Mary. To decompress I should exercise but I like to bake. :) I’m in my first trimester so really don’t have the extra energy to exercise but really need to as I feel so good afterwards. I love baking Christmas cookies and that helps relieve stress.

  33. 33
    Taylor says:

I eat chocolate to decompress! ;) Kidding…sort of. Actually, I find that I have really low stress during this busy season. My extroverted self thrives on all of the time with friends and family and fun things to do, so all of that keeps my stress low!

  34. 34
    Jennifer3 says:

Knowing my limits and sticking to them is key to helping me keep low stress.

  35. 35
    Katie says:

I exercise and I try to think about people whose jobs and lives are much more stressed than mine and it makes me feel lucky to have the stresses that I do.

  36. 36
    Kathleen says:

How do I decompress? I know this is shameful….but I make no apology…mindless tv/movie & Popcorn! Yes I know it’s frowned upon, but as with everything else in life…there’s is a time and a place for evverything. When my stress gets to a boiling point..I pop some popcorn with real butter in my Whirly Pop popcorn maker and find something totally mindless to watch.

  37. 37
    Jennifer says:

Sleeping enough helps (ie not staying up till 1 to finish something!) and planning ahead so I don’t have 345 presents to finish the day before Christmas…

  38. 38

Actually, I’m not very good at decompressing during Christmas. I tend to overbook us in the hospitality area. I love visiting with friends. That has increased since losing my mama.

I should think about that decompressing idea. Walking sounds right. :)

I exercise, spend some time every afternoon in the Word, oh… and read blogs. :) We definitely limit the number of gifts we buy. We only buy 3-4 for each of our children and try to make something for extended family members.

Entry # 2… And maybe a long walk around the block after tea & chocolate!

  48. 48
    Sheila says:

To truly decompress, I cook, sew or nap (ha, ha, ha on getting a nap, though!). Exercise is non-negotiable for me, and I don’t function well on less sleep, so do my best to always get enough. Sleep suffers some, though. :) Chocolate always raises the spirit!
