Crafts: Anybody else…?

…already counting the days til Christmas break?  I confess– I just did.  We’ve got 23 school days til our Christmas break, which starts December 13th.  One of the things I love about homeschooling is the freedom to take several weeks off at Christmas time.  It makes Christmas prep less stressful, and gives us a few days to decorate, wrap, and work on Christmas crafts and baking!

Here are a few crafts I’m thinking might be fun this year:

Stamped Wrapping Paper – We’ve done this other years and enjoyed it.

Chocolate Covered Pretzels -- I love that they did this with big pretzels!

Paper Angels -- I might try some of these with fabric.

Twinkle Lights —  This would be a great way to liven up a garland I’ve used for years.

Cloth gift bags – I’m always glad to expand my collection of these reusable goodies!

Puzzle Wreaths — finally, a use for those old puzzles with all the missing pieces!

Peppermint Bark — This was one of the yummiest treats we made last Christmas.

One of the things we’ll be working on during November is our Thankful Tree.  Basically it is just some trimmed tree branches.  We will be hot-gluing leaves onto it which we’ve written blessings that we’re thankful for.  I’ll share some pictures soon.  Every day or two we’ll add new blessings, and by Thanksgiving most likely the tree will be pretty full!  I don’t  do this every year, but when we do, it is always a a great heart-exercise.  We really do have so much to be thankful for!

What crafts are you thinking about doing with kids this year?

  1. Amen! A goooood long Christmas break rocks. lol I need it more than the kids do, I think.

  2. I had forgotten about the Thankful Tree!!!! So glad you reminded me. I need to get this together today!

  3. We did the Twinkle Lights last year and they are really beautiful!

  4. Thankful tree sounds nice, but I’d have to modify it. There’s no way I’d get my glue gun out every couple days! They’d just stack up.

I am very much in craft mode for fall/Christmas. Cold weather does it to me I think. We’ve already been working on homemade Christmas gifts (mulling spices!) and I’m sure we’ll do some Thanksgiving crafts too!

Have to tell you – we had a craft day with our Home School group today. We had decided on several crafts, but after reading this post, I decided to add “make your own wrapping paper” to the line up. It was a hit!

    Thanks for the idea.
