Wanna meet up?

July 15, 2010

Just got done booking a plane ticket and I’m all excited.   I’ve been invited to attend the TOGETHER FOR ADOPTION conference September 30th thru October 2nd in Austin, TX.  Read here if you want to know more about the vision for this conference, but one big goal is to equip and inspire the church to better meet the needs of orphans.    Some of the sessions will be led by Karyn Purvis, the author of The Connected Child, a dynamite book on attachment in adoption.   I’m looking forward to hearing her speak.

My job at the conference will be to live-blog  the sessions that I attend, to let y’all in on the message as it unfolds, whether you can actually make it to the conference or not.  There will be blogger meet-up sessions, to give people a chance to meet the entire Featured Blogger Team.  So if you live in or near the great state of Texas  and plan to attend the conference, come on over and say hi.  You can bet I’ll be thrilled to see you in person!

This is awesome. I was just lamenting the fact that it is so far away from us to my husband the other day, so I am glad that you will be live blogging. We can’t be there, but I’m eager to keep up with what’s going on.

I’m going as one of the featured bloggers as well. So excited to finally be able to meet you in person. I may not comment very often but I read your blog (and your books) regularly! You were one of the first adoption blogs I stumbled on when we started our journey 2.5 years ago.

I’d love to go, but am due to have a baby Oct 2. Maybe next year. I have such a burden for the orphan and would love to go to a conference like that. Maybe I can get the audio.

That sounds interesting. We may have to look into going. We’re attending an “information meeting” on international adoption next week…excited and a little scared!

I live in Austin and would love to attend! The only deal will be that our second trip to Russia to bring our daughter home might be about the same time! We shall have to see…:)

I live in Austin but I’m afraid I can’t make the conference :( Think they’d let me roam the hallways anyway? *wry*

oh, that would be fun! Not sure when the blogger meetup is going to be, but seems like something should work somehow….

email me closer to the date. By then I should know more about my plans and the time I’ll have…

      • Hill Country Bible Church is one that I’ve “always” (as long as I’ve lived in Austin) been interested in. They keep coming up in searches for programs/seminars/issues I am interested in. But they are on the far NW side of the city and we are SE. (Near the airport actually). Way too far to go every week and participate in during the week activities… and yet…

I’ll email you closer, see if you’ll have kids with you, want suggestions for things to do, and such.

I just signed up. I am hoping to get involved in orphan ministry with my church. I have 2 Russian daughters, 1 Gautemalan daughter, 1 Ethiopian daughter and 3 bio boys. I have both of your books and would love to run into there. Your book on large families encouraged me that we could go from 6 to 7 children:)

Wow!!!! Sounds like fun!!! We use to live outside of Austin prior to moving to Oregon. Watch out you will probably run into some great Texas weather and food!!!!!!! Adoption is a great vocation….. We look at our son everyday and tell him we volunteered for this job!!! Have a safe trip!!!!
