One time I had 3 children with me and a man said “Wow! You must have your hands full.” I said, “oh no, this is only half of them!”

I, too, have 10 kids. One day I was at church with a bunch of friends and one was complaining about how stressful it was to take her 3 kids to the grocery store. She looked up at me and said, “Oh, no, I can’t complain to you about this!”

It amazes me how many parents are willing to want to ‘give their children away’, but they won’t take the time to train them properly in the first place.

We recently went to Disneyland where there are lots of kids running around. I didn’t think we would get comments, but sure enough….every time we got on the elevator people would comment, “What a troop!” I just smiled and loved it. I thought wait till we come back next year with our adopted Ethiopian daughter. Then I will get more stares and comments…oh bring it on! They don’t know what they are missing. I have the most joyful world and I wouldn’t trade it!

My least favorite comment I hear is, “oh, you’ve got your hands full”.(I have 3 kiddos, under 4 yrs.) Much like the term “working mother”, I find this a rather banal statement. EVERY mother works, even if she doesn’t have a job outside the home, and EVERY mother has her “hands full” even if she only has one child.

My favorite comment, I got from a checker at a grocery store. He asked if I needed help out with my groceries (and kids) and I said “no, thanks anyway.” He replied “oh, Supermom, huh?”. : ) So now every time I come in the store he calls me “Supermom.”

I love it! How true! And right from the child’s mouth! LOL! We have soon to be nine and get stupid comments all the time. I just smile and say how wonderfully blessed we are!

Yes I am getting a lot of these comments as I’m currently pregnant with my 4th baby in three years. A lot of people have been very positive though, which is a blessing.

By the way I have cooked several things out of your cookbook this past week, and all of them have been very good and my family loves them.

We have five under 7 and it always throws me off to go out with just one or two and not get all of the questions from people!

I’m also amazed at the standard list of comments people make and how I can almost say, “Oh, that’s comment #3 on the top ten list”.

(It is a shame that only 1 or 2 of those are ever positive, though.)

But we know they are a blessing from the Lord, don’t we?

He has big plans for these kiddos and we get to watch Him work in their lives!

I certainly get a perspective check when our 3 foster kids are gone for the weekend and we only have our 2 bio. kids (age 5 & 3). Life is sooooo easy – and just a year ago we were exhausted with only those 2. Our 17YO foster daughter joking refers to our 12-passenger van as the “short bus”.
