I wanted to share my story. I donated to my aunt almost six years ago and feel it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am doing great physically, mentally, and emotionally. I am probably in the best shape of my life due to the fact that I know I have to take extra special care of myself for my children. My aunt is doing great; at one point, they starting lowering her anti-rejection medications. Kelli and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that knowing that a donor can lead a perfectly normal life after donating will encourage those that are debating on whether or not to donate to do so. Thank you for sharing her story.

My mom is a living donor. She gave a kidney to a woman that she didn’t know. She heard of the need for someone at church, and felt that she should be tested as a match. She was a near perfect match. It is truly a selfless sacrifice. I hope your friend is able to find a match soon.

Kelli will be in my thoughts and prayers. My uncle received a donor kidney in 1970 (when xplants were still cutting edge) and lived for 30 years with it. My father (his identical twin) also received a transplant during his life. I hope she meets her perfect match and both have a smooth recovery.
