Julie and Julia/ September happenings
Just got home from seeing Julie and Julia for the second time, this time with my daughter Erika. It is a hilarious, warm-hearted, yummy movie. For those of you wondering if it was family friendly, eh. It earned its PG-13 rating, due to language and innuendo. But that warning aside, I totally enjoyed it. My husband, who saw it with me the first time I went, also thoroughly enjoyed it, much more than he expected to.
I am soooo tired and need to sleep, but before I quit here I wanted to let you know that I am planning a grocery spending challenge for September like I have done in previous years. Most months I spend $800-$900 at the store to feed 11 people. In September I’m challenging myself to feed my family creatively on much, much less. I’ll talk details later this month. I am really hoping some of you might consider joining me.
I also have a nice giveaway planned in September, compliments of the folks at CSN Stores. They carry almost everything you might need to outfit a home, right down to mattresses . The giveaway I’ll be offering is from their cookware store. I am really excited about it!

Ohhh, I can’t wait to see Julie & Julia! I think I”ll surprise my hubby and take him soon. (He loves to cook and grew up watching Julia Child…)
As for the grocery spending challenge, I might just be in! I will soon be starting to closely watch spending again, using coupons again, and only cash again. Perfect timing!
Looking forward to the spending challenge…I am currently doing about $70-$100/week for three people (the baby is still breastfeeding), and I know I’m going to have to start figuring out a more economic system if I’m going to be feeding a larger family some day (as I hope to). But, it’s really hard! Maybe food here in the Seattle area just costs more. Sometimes I think it does. I’ll be looking forward to any tips you’ve got.
Oh I’m looking forward to the grocery challenge! Last year I cut my groceries by 75% and with the Lord help have stuck to it, not always easy and it does mean sacrifice at times, but it means I can give more and save to adopt so it is worth it! Mind you my savings to adopt are like a boat moving at a snails pace!
I finished your book and it is wonderful, it really challenged me which is a good thing! I’ll write about it on my site soon.
We rarely go to the movies, but I want to see Julie & Julia. I’ve been waiting for someone to indicate if it was worth the trip. Your comment says – GO! Thanks.
LOVED Julie & Julia. In my mind, the only inappropriate thing for kids is Julia’s comment about a hot cannelloni noodle. (!) There is mild allusion to the characters’ sex lives–but in the context of loving marriages, which is something I think kids need to see more of.
Looking forward to the grocery challenge!
And I LOVED Julie & Julia. I went to see it with one of my best friends (a pseudo-foodie like me). It left me feeling inspired to try Mastering the Art of French Cooking myself! Not sure if I’ve the courage, though! LOL
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie too, and isn’t it refreshing to see a movie where love and enjoyment of a couple for each other is between MARRIED people.Enjoy your blog.
Count me in for the food challenge…..hubby and I went to see Julie and Julia (our first movie together since Mission Impossible 1 if you can believe that) and loved it.
