When we unwisely though a couple roosters would be "fun" we were in the same predicament.... What to do with the noisy fellers??? Since Kevin isn't interested in butchering and we didn't want to go to the hassle and expense is taking them somewhere we caught the awful things and brought them up to the ditch bank on the BLM land behind our house. We thought that they would have a nice little life up there in the weeds with all the pheasants. Well, not two days later our dog had found those dumb roosters, killed them and spread their feathers and guts all over our yard. So much for avoiding the gory stuff. We shoveled them up and threw them in the dumpster. I guess they were just too tame for living in "the wild". heheheheh

Oh my, that is funny!

We have some clamouring, er, crowing roosters to get rid of. Hubby hasn't done it before, and I am sure he is willing... he said so... if he can find the time. Fortunately for him, he can't find the time! :)
Anyway, we have four now, out of 70 chickens... we had only 6! If you can believe that.
We are sure to have several more, since a hen hatched a clutch of 15 eggs a few months ago. I am thinking I have seen at least 5 more.
And they do crow all day, all night, and all the time in-between.

Cute story. I love it when they all run out to watch... and learn!

Oh man, I wanted to butcher the silly rooster that my parents' neighbors had! We visited them this summer, and YES, they really do crow every 37 seconds. It doesn't sound a thing like "cockle-doodle-doo", either. All day long, half the time even at night when we wanted to sleep. It was absolutely horrible! My parents claimed to have learned to tune it out, but I think they lied...

Oh I LOVE this post! I grew up on a farm and we butchered chickens every year. My absolute favorite picture is of me and my sister each holding a post-butchered chicken upside down. I think we were 2 and 5 years old. There have been no ill side effects from our involvement (I don't think!) - just great memories!

I knew about the crowing and the aggressiveness. That's why we got only hens. Our first ever. Eight of them. It's going great. I'm so glad we didn't have to do any slaughtering.

It sure makes a funny story, though.

I am one of those city folk who, if I had to kill my meat in order to eat it, would become a vegetarian very quickly!

I'm not sure I could watch animals being butchered, even if they'd been annoying me and would make a tasty dinner. Guess I just wasn't meant for live in the country. :)
