I have been reading you blog for over a year now and just love it!

We buy our bulk foods and our spices at a Indian grocery store not only are they very cheep this way they are also very fresh, so they last longer before they go stale.

We also use hot water bottles most winter nights, at $5 they are a lot cheeper to buy and run than electric blankets.

We got chickens three years ago and I love them! We live in the city on a slightly larger than average lot. My chickens have a coop and "free-range" in my backyard during the day. We love the fresh eggs and the fertilizer they produce. We also feed them our food scraps (they'll eat almost anything) so they "compost" the scraps for us into fabulous fertilizer. They are easy and the kids love them.

Thanks for your site and all your tips. I love coming here everyday and getting inspired.

The best trick I found recently was buying spices at our health food store, where they are sold in bulk. I bought enough to refill four spice jars (cumin, coriander, bouquet garni, and bay leaves) for $3.25. It would have cost me nearly $20 at the grocery store. Plus, it's a great way to shop if you only need a little bit of something unusual to try a new recipe.

Hey! that's me up there. Thanks for the link.
With my own chickens, the egg drop soup comes out to 8 cents serving, including the chicken feed required to get the egg. Not bad, eh?
Every Thursday night I publish other "Waiting-for-payday" recipes for the frugal family. Drop by my back porch for a visit anytime.
