Recipe: Pure Brownie Goodness

Brownie Delight

Makes a 9×12 pan
Preparation Time: 45 minutes

If you like your brownies rich and fudge-like, this recipe is for you! Melting the butter and sugar on the stovetop before stirring it into the batter is one thing that makes this recipe extra yummy.

Ingredients:
2 sticks butter (1 cup)
2 cups brown sugar
1/4 cup good baking cocoa
2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate morsels
4 eggs
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine the butter and sugar in a pan, and heat until simmering, but not quite boiling. Sugar crystals should be all dissolved. Remove from heat and add chocolate chips, stirring until chocolate is melted. Let cool a few minutes.

In a bowl combine flour, baking cocoa and salt. Add vanilla and eggs and mix til combined. Then add melted chocolate mixture and mix well. Pour into the greased 9×12 pan. Bake for 28-30 minutes at 350 degrees. You want this gooey, but set. Let cool, and enjoy!

Oh my goodness! That looks terrific!

This is very similar to the “tried and true” recipe we use. Except I don’t melt the butter and sugar together (and I use white sugar instead of brown). I’m ALWAYS in search of the “perfect” brownie recipe and I’m going to try this one soon.

Thanks, as always, for a great blog!

    Thanks Mary.

Giving thanks my oven broke this morning and parts place says “two weeks”. Thankful because I’d be in the kitchen at this moment making my butt bigger – did I really say that? I meant to say – preparing these lovely brownies to share – yeah that is it – to SHARE with my hungry neighbors. Ignore that whole big butt thing -thank you – but when I’m back in the business of having an oven – I’ll definitely share some of these yummy sounding morsels.

I love brownie recipes that fill a 9 x 13 pan. What’s up with the 8 x8 pan recipes….that wouldn’t make it around the table once at my house!!
This recipe looks great, I can’t wait to try it!

I will definitely be trying this! I have made you pasta carbonaira several times with success. Living in NZ brownies are not a typical food like in the US and so we can only really make them from a Betty Crocker box! So having a start from scratch recipe is something I always love to have. Will make some soon and let you know how it went, even if it is only me that will eat them, although come to think about it, my 3 yr old has started on chocolate so maybe they will all dissappear!

MmmmM….looks delish! After making my first cheesecake hubby said, I think the new rule should be that you dont’ make anything from a box anymore, so I’ll have to give this one a try! :)

Brownies are my all time favorite dessert. These sound delish. Again, thanks for always sharing your kitchen secrets with us.

My oven is broken and I’m “patiently” waiting on my brother-in-law to come install it for me. These brownies look so good they may be the first thing I cook in my new oven.

Yummy! I’m going to have to make these later! Is it wrong that I’m so excited?

I’ve made these twice, and both times they just didn’t seem to come out correctly. The first time I think I got the butter/sugar too hot. The second time I watched it carefully, did everything precisely… still it’s a bit weird. The bottom of the pan is oily, the brownies are too moist to stay together much and there are odd hard bits in the, that I’m not sure what they are. All my ingredients are fresh… ah well. apparently not the recipe for me.

    Hey Chris,
Sorry these didn’t work for you. I am guessing that decreasing the butter might leave the bottom of the brownies less oily. They aren’t exactly diet food! :)

I’ll play around with the recipe a bit more next time I make it.
