My aunt brought me this tip from her years spent stationed in Germany. They have adorable wooden bikes over there with no pedals that the children ride from the time they are quite small. She brought me one and it was a hit here! It does work!

Actually, my son just learned to ride a bike this way but we didn't take the pedals off. I just lowered his seat all the way (they really cannot be on a bike that is too big for them--the smaller, the better) and showed him how to push himself with his feet and coast on the flat driveway. No pedaling. Back and forth, back and forth, and in 3 hours, he was pedaling down the hill!

Blessings,
SAndwich

Mother Hen----It worked in ONE day?

We've done it with our 6 kids and it's amazing, though we've never done it in one day. Because after taking stuff off the bike, who wants to put it right back on? But it seriously does not take much "riding" to get the hang of it.

I'm sure it beats the scary way I learned!

Thanks, Mary. I am so adverse to blood that I am never in a hurry for the Pirates to learn to ride. Consequently, I have a 5 yo and an 8 yo who don't ride yet. This advice seems to make all the sense in the world. I'm gonna try it today. I'll let ya know how it goes.
