I would like to can the apples for apple crisp. I use a mixture of apples, cinnamon, flour and sugar for the apple part. Is there a way to can this? That way I can just pop opne a can pour it into a pan and put the topping on. I have so many apples and want to save them for the rest of the year!

For applesauce, I put water in a big pot about an inch or two deep, add a cup or so of sugar, a tablespoon of cinnamon. Set the pot on a low simmer and start slicing apples into the pot, stirring occasionally. Once it is full, let it simmer for 45-60 minutes, or til the sauce is the right consistency. If you like it really smooth, run it thru the blender once the apples are mushy. Before you put it in jars, taste it and add more sugar if needed. Can via boiling water bath for half an hour. That's it!

I've been canning lately too. I really want to do applesauce and apple cider, but don't know how. I'd love some recipes if you have any!

Oooo - thanks for the recipe! My sis and nephew are coming to visit the first of Oct and we are all going apple picking. The good part (for us!) is that since they fly they always leave all their apples (except for a couple) here with us! Handy free apple pickers! LOL Can't wait to make all the yummy apple treats! - Jill

You are amazing. I don't know how you find the time to do all you do. I was just saying to my husband today that I wish I had about two more hours between noon and four o'clock every day. And I have an empty nest!!
Have a fun weekend!

Thanks, Mary.
